DUBLIN, IRELAND, February 02, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ithys Press Announces the First-Ever Appearance in Print of James Joyce's Story for Children, 'The Cats of Copenhagen'. Set from the Text of the Original Manuscript dated 5 September 1936, this Fine-Press First Edition, Published in January 2012, is available for Worldwide Distribution.

Ithys Press Announces the First-Ever Appearance in Print of James Joyce's Story for Children, 'The Cats of Copenhagen'. Written in 1936 and never before published, James Joyce's 'The Cats of Copenhagen' is the slightly younger twin sister to 'The Cat and the Devil'.

Both works, penned within a few weeks of each other, are in letters posted by James Joyce to his only grandchild, Stephen James Joyce. At the time of writing, Joyce was taking a break in Denmark and four-year-old Stephen was staying at the Villa des Roses in Menthon-St-Bernard.

This First Edition is set from the original manuscript dated 5 September 1936. The letter is among the many items donated in 2006 to the Zurich James Joyce Foundation by Hans E. Jahnke, son of Giorgio Joyce's second wife, Asta Osterwalder.

Nearly lost and forgotten, it has been brought out in January 2012 by Ithys Press in a rare, special edition of 200 copies, limited to 26 Lettered copies, 170 Numbered copies & 4 copies Hors Commerce.

Expertly designed and printed (by Michael Caine) in homage to Joyce's own internationalist spirit and eccentric humour, this large-format letterpress edition features a wondrously expressive array of original, early twentieth-century hand-cut Italian and French founts alongside playfully clever pen-and-ink drawings (by Casey Sorrow) in typographique cliche. Christopher Rowlatt has hand-marbled and hand-bound both issues. The Lettered deluxe issue is in loose imperial quartos with marbled paper-wrappers and slip-cased; the Numbered issue is hand-bound in one-quarter cloth over marbled boards.

James Joyce, 'The Cats of Copenhagen' (Ithys Press: 2012), [40pp; Lettered 28 x 38cm, Numbered 22 x 32cm], Lettered: 1200EUR / Numbered 300EUR.
