Beverly J. Fernald Recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for Excellence in Musical Performance

LAKEWOOD, CO, December 13, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Beverly Fernald, Founder and Executive Director of the Colorado Center for the Vocal Arts, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in musical performance.
Ms. Fernald founded the Colorado Center for the Vocal Arts, 29 years ago. Since that time, she has provided vocal training and coaching to professional singers through master classes, which she holds in various studios and schools. Ms. Fernald's extensive performance career includes appearances with the New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and Denver Symphony. She has held leading roles with the New York City Opera and in operas throughout the United States and Europe. Her versatility as a performer has allowed her to excel in 40 different operatic roles, as well as in Broadway plays, nightclubs, network television shows, and the recording studio. Ms. Fernald was a winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and the Concours de Genève in Switzerland. She has made recital tours in Italy, the Czech Republic, and Russia. A critic in Moscow praised her as "a charming soprano" with a "pure, light, translucent voice."
As a voice teacher and coach, Ms. Fernald is in high demand for master classes in vocal techniques, performance techniques, and song interpretation. Having retired from teaching at the Metropolitan State College of Denver in 2003, Ms. Fernald continues to teach privately at The Colorado Center for the Vocal Arts, from which many talented young singers have launched their careers.
Ms. Fernald took graduate courses at the Manhattan School of Music after receiving a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Denver in 1958. She also studied at Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich, Germany. She was honored with grants for international competition in Europe from the Ford Foundation, Le Concours de Genève, The Rockefeller Foundation, and the International Institute of Education. The highlights of her career included performances with opera greats Sills, Milnes, Peters, and Peerce.
Ms. Fernald is an active performer in the Denver metropolitan area. She remains highly involved with the musical life of her church and professional music organizations, holding memberships to the Metropolitan Opera Guild, the Denver Lyric Opera Guild and the Denver Musicians Association. In addition, she has received a Distinguished Citizen Award from Alpha Gamma Delta and an ACME Award from Mu Phi Epsilon.
